CHEF KUNIKO YAGI’S PIKUNICO BRINGS JAPANESE-STYLE FRIED CHICKEN TO DOWNTOWN LA
REVERED HINOKI & THE BIRD ALUM DEBUTS CASUAL KARAAGE SHOP

It’s been about a year since Pikunico has opened and I still think about Chef Yagi’s Ginger Onigiri. The standalone passion project from Chef Kuniko Yagi has been a great success thus far. Located at The Row in Downtown’s Arts District which know for their casual dining scene. If you’ve never had Japanese-style fried chicken, I promise you they won’t disappoint. Chef Yagi has created a unique combination of both American and Japanese fried chicken using several traditional techniques. To say that their chicken is delicious would be an understatement.

“After so many incredible experiences working in fine dining restaurants, I took a lot of time to really reflect on what I wanted to pursue next,” said Yagi, who has spent the past few years consulting on a range of dining concepts, but never felt satisfied so removed from the kitchen. “The journey led me to realize that my heart is ultimately with my customers, and being able to cook great food for as many different types of people as I can – friends, family, neighbors, and my community.”

MENU

The menu at Pikunico consists of fried chicken, sandwiches, salads and bowls. Throw in a side or sweets and pair it with tea— you’re set. Now I’m not here to sell you on one item, but I am here to tell you that you cant go wrong with anything on the menu. I’ve been back numerous times for their Ginger Onigiri alone. If I had to pick my favorite thing on the menu though, I’d definitely go for the Golden Chicken sandwich. For the market price ($12), the quality, and taste it’s a no-brainer.
