Tropicália Music & Taco Festival ’19

Tropicalia Music & Taco Festival

"FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, GOLDENVOICE HAS PARTNERED WITH L.A. TACO, A LOS ANGELES-BASED WEBSITE AND EXPERTS ON ALL THINGS TACO, TO CURATE THE VENDORS FOR TROPICALIA 2019. ORIGINATORS OF THE TERM "THE TACO LIFESTYLE," L.A. TACO'S DEEP RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE CITY'S HOTTEST TAQUEROS MEANS THAT TROPICÁLIA'S SELECTION OF VENDORS WILL REPRESENT A DIVERSE GROUP OF TACO STYLES FROM ALL OVER SOCAL."

Tropicalia Music & Taco Festival is back for it’s 3rd year, this time at a new location. A lot has been said about the previous location (Queen Mary) and it’s painful organization. I myself took note to the long delays and essentially limited access to the location. And while the festival itself is great, getting in and out was not only hard, but hazardous at times. But enough about that, the festival has (last minute) changed locations to the Pomona Fairplex. We’ll see just how much of a difference it’ll make given the demand.

Last year’s Tropicalia lineup was seemingly a ‘Topped Last Years’ with acts from big stars, and as always some ‘small’ bands. Kali Uchis & Chicano Batman will be headlining the festival for the third straight year. With Los Tigres Del Norte headlining for the second time. The lineup splits both days into two different genres. Saturday features a heavy mix of Spanish artist— Los Tigres Del Norte, Caifanes, Ivy Queen, NBRidaz, Los Freddy’s, and Sonora Dinamita among others. Sunday will feature a slew of indie bands, alternative, and some rock. Artist like Cuco, Omar Apollo, Yellow Days, The Drums, The Marias, and Beach Fossils are just a few that fill the bill.

FOOD + DRINK

As advertised— tacos will be on sale for the festival. Although not much has been said publicly other than the partnership with L.A Taco, we are still waiting to see if a list of vendors will be released. So far the website has only displayed Teddy’s Red Tacos, Balam, and Triple Threat Truck as tacos vendors. But surely more will be on site the day of alongside non taco options.

Aside from the L.A Taco experience, Johnnie Walker will also be on hand for attendee’s 21+ to experience the world of flavor through their innovative whiskey cocktails. If you’re anything like me, a good whiskey cocktail can go a long way. Stop by their Johnnie Walker activation both days to try their Tropicalia exclusive cocktail ‘The Tropicalia CoCochata’ –which  features a churro garnish from LA’s Churros Calientes. So remember, come early, come hungry, and always drink responsibly.

UPDATE:
The full list of vendors have been released by L.A Taco and it’s a doozy.

Balam – A taqueria in Lynwood, this cool spot in the ‘hood specializes in new-school tacos with old school sensibilities.
Macheen – Jonathan Perez’s fine-dining-on-a-tortilla approach to tacos have made him one of the most unique and ambitious pop-up taqueros out there.
Masataco – A Whittier-based pop-up taqueria that is proof that vegan tacos don’t have to suck.
Evil Cooks – Newcomers to L.A.’s taco scene, Alex Garcia and his partner Elvia Huerta have carved a name for themselves with their custom-stamped handmade tortillas and vegan trompo.
Tobala – Tobala is chef Manuel Bañuelos’s catering company. He’s the chef for Padre and Mezcalero.
Tha Grub Plug – Tha Grub Plug specializes in “Californian street food.” Look out for their Elote Fries to help soothe your beer munchies.
Rasta Taco – Rasta Taco is based in Orange County and celebrates its founders love for the passionate cultures and flavors of Jamaica and Mexico. You heard it here first: Jamaican Tacos!
Teddys Red Tacos – Teddy is the Grandfather of L.A.’s obsession with beef birria. His grilled beef birria tacos are always juicy.
Triple Threat – Triple Threat calls themselves “L.A.’s Only Boricua Food Truck.” Look for them if you’re craving that Latino Caribbean flavor like mofongo and plantains.
Vchos – Vchos and their street-famous pupusas along with other Salvadoran specialties will be in the house.
El Rey Basket Tacos – El Rey will be bringing their tacos de canasta! Probably one of the most sought after taco styles after the episode based on them on The Taco Chronicles.
