BY USING A UNIQUE BELGIAN YEAST STRAIN IN AN AWARD-WINNING IPA, BALLAST POINT CONTINUES TO SHOWCASE ITS INNOVATIVE SPIRIT WITH ALOHA SCULPIN, THE LATEST ADDITION TO THE SCULPIN IPA FAMILY – NOW AVAILABLE NATIONWIDE.
Often times the little things go overlooked. If you ask me, any, and all of Ballast Point’s Sculpin IPA’s are great. So when I got word that the new Aloha Sculpin was in the works, I immediately thought— a tropical IPA. More than just that, Ballast Point takes their flagship IPA and raises the bar. Using innovative methods and ingredients that contribute to the mass success of Ballast Point’s already successful brews. You’d think innovation is a term only used for tech companies, but at Ballast Point it’s something they strive for. Aloha Sculpin features a distinct yeast strain known as Saccharomyces “Bruxellensis” Trois, or Brux Trois. This means Aloha Sculpin is the first IPA brewed with Brux Trois that is packaged and made available nationwide.
By using Brux Trois it evolves the award winning IPA into a tropical oasis with notes and aromas that suggest you’re sitting beachside. There’s no love lost in this beer by any means. It’s still true to its character— that of the Sculpin IPA. Slight hints of tropical fruit and citrus come off the head when poured. It has a golden body with some slight haziness. As a Spring/Summer beer it’s definitely one you can enjoy all season. When drinking, there’s some slight juiciness with flavors of yeast, tropical fruit, and bananas. It carries some bitterness throughout, but overall it’s a very enjoyable IPA that’s not too heavy on fruit.
